Hot water is the number one way to gain efficiency in multifamily buildings.
The Ecosizer is a free tool designed to help manufacturers, public utilities, engineers, and policy makers, among others, understand the benefits of energy-efficient heat pump water heaters, size them for multifamily dwellings, and positively impact the environment.
More Informationhow to use this tool
- Pick a heat pump technology.
- Understand the limitations of the heat pump with respect to things such as possible hot water storage temperatures and output potential at winter design conditions.
- Input the building design conditions, including the highest water use on the coldest day.
- Pick the configuration for the temperature maintenance system.
- Size the system! The recommended results are sized for 16 hours of compressor runtime per day.
- Select the actual heat pump equipment and use the curve provided to find the minimum storage volume based on the output of the equipment at design conditions. Alternatively, pick the storage volume and use the curve to find the minimum heat pump output capacity needed.
